Botswana's former president on top

Former President Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae won the Mo Ibrahim Prize for African leadership on Monday, for ensuring good governance and prosperity for the country.Mogae was announced the winner of the $5-million prize, the world's largest individual award by former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in London.Announcing the 2008 Ibrahim Laureate in front of an audience of London’s African diplomatic community, civil society representatives and the media, Mr. Annan, the Chair of the Prize Committee, said: “President Mogae’s outstanding leadership has ensured Botswana’s continued stability and prosperity in the face of an HIV/AIDS pandemic which threatened the future of his country and people.” Annan praised President Mogae’s stewardship of the Botswana economy, saying, “Botswana demonstrates how a country with natural resources can promote sustainable development with good governance, in a continent where too often mineral wealth has become a curse.” The 2008 Ibrahim Laureate was selected by the Prize Committee of six eminent individuals, chaired by Annan and including fellow Nobel peace laureates Martti Ahtisaari, a former president of Finland, and Mohamed ElBaradei, the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Committee assesses democratically elected former Executive Heads of State or Government from sub-Saharan African countries who have served their term in office within the limits set by their country’s constitutions, and have left office within the last three years. On hearing the outcome of the Prize Committee’s deliberations, Mo Ibrahim, the founder of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, said he was delighted that the Committee had selected President Mogae as the second Ibrahim Laureate; he described him as “another example of outstanding leadership from the African continent.”Mogae is the second leader after the former President of Mozambique, Mr. Joaquim Chissano, to win the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership. The foundation was created by Mo Ibrahim, a Sudanese-born billionaire who founded the African telecommunications company, Celtel International.Mogae will receive, in addition to the US$5 million disbursed over 10 years, US$200,000 annually for life. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation will also consider granting $200,000 annually for 10 years to the causes that the former president supports. Mogae led Botswana from 1998 to 2008 after taking over from Sir Ketumile Masire. On April 1st he passed the baton to President Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

OSCAR THE CAT

Oscar was so strange and extra-ordinary, the ability to sense death is is something that does not happen usually. Having grown in an environment where cats were related to evil and witchcraft, i have never liked cats but this has made me dislike them even more.

MOTHER,BEST PART OF MY LIFE

Basically, if it were not for our parents we would not be alive. In most cases if not all, a mother plays a major role on the well being and that's how it is in my case. I am so passionate about my mother because of that reason. She raised me as a single parent and i have seen her falling and getting up to her feet making sure that i get educated and evrything is ok with me. She has shown me her love through thick and thin, in the midst of her hurt she would still make sure that i am alright. There is nothing that beats a mother's love in this earth. She was there at the beginning when the world was new to me,she was there to listen to my thoughts and give advise when i asked, she was there at the beginning and she will always be there, in my mind and in my thoughts, mother, i am passionate about her.

Moremi Game Reserve

My country Botswana is small but one of the most successful countries in terms of tourism. Moremi Game Reserve is one the most visited places in Bots(for short). People come from different parts of the world to the magnificent nature that this game reserve has. Moremi can be found on the beautiful Xakanaxa Lagoon in the eastern extremity of the Okavango Delta. The Game Reserve is said to be one of the most beautiful in Africa, and Xakanaxa is arguably the highlight. Moremi has a tree house which is shaded by giant ebony trees and it is an elegant elevated thacth timber structure comprising main louge, wildlife reference library, dining room and corktail bar. They have activies like tracking game on morning game drives in open 4x4 trucks, excellent bird watching, and sightings of wild dog, cheetah, elephants, leopard, lion and buffalo are always a high light. All this things are a blessing to the small nation of Botswana.

Wealth, wealth, wealth. The main source of prestidge in today's world. Most of the most respected people are respected because of their material possession. Wealth like all things have both advantages and disadvantages. Some of the advantanges are that the wealthy person will in most cases have a good life and need nothing. His or her family will also be in need of nothing. Fame will also come your way uncalled for, many people will know that so and so is living well. The most inevitable disadvantage is that of having enemies, there will always be some people who hate you for what you have out of jealousy. In some cases, a wealthy person may have everything else except happiness. He or she might spend some sleepless nights dispite of his/her possession. All in all, wealth is a good thing and many people are in search for it.
